At What Age Do French Dogs Calm Down – It Depends on Several Factors

At What Age Do French Dogs Calm Down? Well, French dogs aged over 2 years are less energetic, and calmer. On the other hand, young French Bulldogs will stun you with the amount of energy they exhibit. The good news is it just proves that they are healthy and well.

However, all that hype, the playfulness, and the running around may also be destructive, and can be draining to new owners. This is why you could be wondering at what age they are going to calm down. Read on to discover how to manage your frenchie’s energy.

At What Age Do French Dogs Calm Down

As is with most dog breeds, growing up reduces the excess energy they have as pups. The same is true for most French pups. A 10 minute walk could all you need to calm them down, by the time they are two years old.

A lot of that hyperactivity tends to disappear, when they are about the age of 2-3 years. However, some Frenchies may remain active up to the age of 5 years. However, spayed or neutered Frenchies may exhibit a decrease in energy levels, at a much tender age of 4 to 9 months.

Ways to Calm down Your French Bulldog

If neutering or spaying is not an option, you may have to live with your hyperactive Frenchie up to that point, when age tones down their energy levels. However, that does not mean a life of frustration for you. Here is what you can do to help them calm down.

Help Them Work Out

Exercising them can be an excellent way for them to make use of that excess energy. While experts argue that exercises such as walking may not be enough to wear out dogs, 10 to 20 minute walks can be a good source of obstruction.

Walks are a good way for them to check out their outdoor surroundings, which relaxes them. Caging dogs or locking them indoors is likely to make them aggressive, less calm, and anti-social

Brain Workout

Take them through puzzling games that will make them spend endless time figuring them out. For instance, tie a rope on their bodies and allow it to dangle. Command them to catch the rope. The frustration of being unable to get hold of that rope-end, wears them out quite fast.

Check on Their Food

Food can be a great source of stimulation for dogs. Carefully examine the ingredients in their diet. If necessary, give them a diet that is low on sugar, and avoid meat by-products in their diet.

Reward Calm Behavior

Let them know that you appreciate their calm behavior. Dogs love making their owners happy, so take advantage of that trait, by cueing them you are not happy when they are hyperactive. Never act or make facial expressions, which may indicate you are enjoying their being hyperactive.

When they are calm, be keen to let her know you like that by offering a reward.

Conclusion – All That Frenchie Hype Is a Passing Phase

Your Frenchie being hyperactive can be unsettling. However, you should not give up on them, because it is a passing stage. Soon enough, they will be a grown dog that will care little about playing around.

Nonetheless, if you find their hyperactivity becoming too much for you, consider taking them to a vet for neutering or spaying. What is your experience with hyperactive French Bulldogs? Please share it in the comments section below
