Is Jumping Bad for French Bulldogs? Not Quite, Here is Why.

Is Jumping Bad for French Bulldogs? Well, frenchies, just like other dogs, love to jump and be excited around their owners. It is their way of expressing saying they are feeling health, happy, and strong. Unfortunately, you should not encourage frenchies to jump.

Excessive jumping is bad for frenchies, because of they are prone to leg, back, several spinal conditions. Some of the most serious conditions you frenchie can suffer from includes:

  • Intervertebral Disease
  • Patellar Luxation
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Soft Tissue Injury

Unlike dogs such as the German shepherd or hounds, frenchies are not highly flexible. They also have short legs, which do not offer sufficient springing action for their stocky body.

To be safe, do not allow your frenchie to jump from a height that is thrice its body length. Sometimes, even jumping from a couch or bed can be dangerous for frenchies, especially when they are still young.

If you allow it, chances are you will have to visit the vet the next day. It may not show any strange behavior or signs of pain, immediately. However, it may not be able to stand up or walk properly the next day, due to torn soft tissues, or back pain.

However, you can let it jump small heights, where it barely lifts its hind legs from the ground. Overall, you should avoid any jumps that cause it to awkwardly twist its body, or fail to land on its legs.

When Will My French Bulldog Calm Down

After feeding on a healthy meal, your frenchie may feel energized and will become hyperactive. That may also happen if you left it alone shortly, then you showed up.

It may appear as if it is taking forever to calm down, but you can help it to relax, by giving a short walk. Any safe physical activity that can help it expend its energy, will help it to calm down.

You may also give it something such as a bone to chew, which will keep it busy, as you go on with your daily tasks. Any safe physical activity that can help it to expend its extra energy will help it calm down, and even sleep.

As long as it is not being aggressive at other pets or occupants of your home, there is no need to worry.

Why Do French Bulldogs Sit Funny

French Bulldogs can sit funny for several reasons, such as being tired after being hyperactive for a while, if they feel hot, or after sleeping for a while. It helps them to relax sections of their body muscles, or relieve pressure from some of their soft tissues.

In some cases, they might even appear to sited funny, because of their small stocky body shape. You can help them sit normal by providing them with a soft bedding or cushion to sit on. However, there is no need for alarm, as they usually adjust their position and take a normal sitting position after a short while.

Conclusion – French Jumping and Sitting Habits

It is normal for your frenchie to jump around when they are excited, and to sit funny once they get tired. However, if you notice them taking a funny sitting position for extended periods, you can take them to your vet immediately. Always watch out for funny behavior, and act accordingly.
